Defence witnesses Milomir Mihajlovic, Goran Beatovic, Miroslav Hecimovic, Predrag Pecenica and Milenko Sekulic told the District Court in Eastern Sarajevo that Markovic was member of their unit, which was deployed to a battlefield in Vraca, Sarajevo.
Milan was with us as of 1992. He was absent from September 1992 to March or April 1993. He returned to the unit afterwards, said Milomir Mihajlovic.
Witness Goran Beatovic was not able to specify when Markovic was absent from the unit.
We were members of the same unit. He left the unit in October, November or December 1992, but he came back in April or May next year, said Miroslav Hecimovic.
The District Prosecution in Eastern Sarajevo charges Markovic, former member of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS unit in Han Pijesak, with having beaten up and physically abused detained civilians in Sokolac municipality from June 1992 to March 1993.
Milenko Sekulic said that members of the First Romanija Brigade rarely went home, while they were on the battlefield in Sarajevo.
The Defence witnesses confirmed that the indictee’s nickname was Muflon.
The trial is due to continue on September 5, when new Defence witnesses will be examined.
